Nokia, Sony Ericsson Compete With iPhone and Blackberry

Three of the five largest manufacturers of mobile phones in the world saw in the second quarter of this year their market share shrink, according to figures from IDC. Especially Motorola and Sony Ericsson were, as expected, hit. This pair sold, respectively 49 and 43.4% less phones. Their market share was only 5.5 and 5.1% respectively over.
Nokia also saw its market share with 15.4% decrease. Nevertheless, the Finnish group was still the largest mobile phone manufacturer in the world as a market share of 38.3%.
The two remaining manufacturers in the top-5, Samsung and LG were in the second quarter just quite successful. Samsung’s market share grew to 19.4%, accounting for half, while LG now occupies the third place with a share of 11.1%. The Korean companies selling respective 14.2 and 11.1% more phones.
IDC’s figures have unfortunately no details of the smaller manufacturers, including Apple. By now sold 5.2 million iPhones the company from Cupertino to advance it. Apple would already have a market share of 1.9%.
